History

  • Founded/Incorporated in 1969 as Messiah Willard Day Care Center, Inc., a Private Non-Profit 501 (c) (3), DHS Licensed Rule 3 childcare.
  • The name of the organization was changed to La Crèche Early Childhood Centers, Inc. in 1989.  Renamed from the French word that means “Day Nursery”.
  • Our Board of Directors is comprised of individuals within the early care and education communities, as well as community and business professionals within the Twin Cities.

Facilities

  • North Childcare facility on the #19 & #20 Bus lines and on 55W (Olson Hwy.) near Morgan Avenue North. Childcare capacity is 82 children ages 16 months through 12 years.  This building is owned by the organization.
  • Appletree Childcare facility on the #9 Bus line near 394W and Penn Ave. S.  Childcare capacity is 30 children 6 weeks through 3 years.  This space is leased.
  • Limited transportation service is provided to families for a monthly fee of $25.

Program Partnerships

  • Both childcare facilities programs are designated Strong Beginnings programs through Hennepin County Child Care.
  • The Sponsoring Fiscal Agency of the Minneapolis Freedom Schools.  A national summer reading enrichment project endorsed and supported by The Children’s Defense Fund and The Black Community Crusade for Children and Minneapolis Public Schools Community Education program.
  • A long-standing collaborative with Parents In Community Action, Inc.
  • KinderMusik ®
  • University of Minnesota/ClearWay - Second Hand Smoke research project.

Staff

  • The staffs of La Crèche Early Childhood Centers, Inc. work cooperatively, sharing duties and responsibilities to maintain a high quality of early care and education throughout both La Crèche Early Childhood Centers.
